Coronavirus: UK theme parks announce closures despite initial plans to stay open

The coronavirus pandemic has seen the government urging people to stay at home or, if they have to go out, practice social distancing.

When the restrictions were initially announced, a number of UK theme parks such as Alton Towers and Legoland originally planned to stay open with heightened social distancing and sanitising measures.

However, as the government pleads with people to stay home and avoid gatherings, theme parks across the nation have made the decision to close their doors to the public.

We take a look at the list of UK theme parks who have closed until further notice amidst the coronavirus pandemic - check out the full list below.

Alton Towers

The park is closed until further notice. If you have a ticked booked between the 21st March to 25th April you will be able to use this when the park opens. If you booked a short break you can find out more on Alton Towers' coronavirus page.

Chessington World of Adventures

The park is closed until further notice. If you have a ticked booked between the 21st March to 25th April you will be able to use this when the park opens. If you booked tickets or short breaks you can find out more on Chessington's coronavirus page.

Drayton Manor

Drayton Manor is currently closed temporarily until further notice. If you already booked tickets these can be moved to an alternate date. You can find out more on the park's coronavirus updates page.

Legoland Windsor

The park is closed until further notice. If you have a ticked booked between the 21st March to 25th April you will be able to use this when the park opens. If you booked tickets or short breaks you can find out more on Legoland's coronavirus updates page.

Paulton's Park

The park is closed until further notice. Advance online tickets are all valid for a visit until the 2nd November 2020. However if you can't make this work, the park is offering the option to upgrade unused tickets for the 2021 season.

Thorpe Park

The park is closed until further notice. If you have a ticked booked between the 27th March to 25th April you will be able to use this when the park opens. If you've booked tickets or short breaks you can find out more on Thorpe Park's coronavirus page.
