Boris Johnson will give a press conference later today amid travel as multiple countries banned British freights and flights from entering their territory once the new strain of coronavirus was confirmed to be tearing through parts of the UK.
It has not yet been confirmed what time the PM will address the nation, just that it will take place some time after the Cobra committee meeting which is due to commence at 2pm.
It comes after France banned lorries carrying freight from the UK, causing chaos in Folkestone, Kent, where queues of lorries began backing up on Sunday to gain access to the Eurotunnel. Officials in Northern Ireland and France have said it is “probable” that the new variant has already spread to their countries.
Meanwhile, Mark Drakeford has revealed there are 600 confirmed cases of the new Covid strain in Wales – but pointed out this is “almost certainly as significant underestimation” due to current testing conditions in the country.
