Priti Patel has said "sorry if people feel there have been failings" surrounding personal protective equipment as the recorded number of Covid-19 patients who have died in UK hospitals rose by 917.
During the daily Covid-19 press conference at Downing Street on Saturday, the Home Secretary dodged directly apologising to NHS workers over the lack of PPE when pressed twice by a reporter.
Meanwhile, police have handed out just over 1,000 fines under new coronavirus powers, it emerged today.
It comes as Mr Hancock confirmed a total of 19 NHS employees have died from suspected coronavirus, while the death toll among patients in the UK rose to 9,875.
