
The number of people in London hospitals with coronavirus is stabilising, Public Health England medical director Professor Yvonne Doyle has said.
It comes Matt Hancock has described Easter Sunday as a "sombre day" for the nation, as the the UK death toll among Covid-19 hospital patients soared past the grim 10,000 milestone.
Speaking at the daily Downing Street press conference, the Health Secretary said: “The fact that over 10,000 people have now lost their lives to this invisible killer demonstrates just how serious this coronavirus is and why the national effort that everyone is engaged in is so important.”
It came as Boris Johnson recorded a video message, hailing the NHS for saving his life as he was discharged from hospital where he had spent seven days being treated for Covid-19.
