Boris Johnson is making "steady progress" but is set to spend a third night in intensive care, Downing Street has said.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak also provided an update on the PM on Wednesday evening, saying he was “improving” and has been sitting up in bed and engaging with his clinical team.

It came as the UK recorded its worst daily spike in virus deaths since the outbreak began. Some 938 further deaths of Covid-19 patients have been confirmed by the Department of Health.

Meanwhile the World Health Organisation has called for a "quarantine on politicising Covid-19" after facing intense criticism over the pandemic from Donald Trump.
