Coronavirus: Three Leicester players self-isolating after showing symptoms

Three Leicester players are self-isolating after showing coronavirus symptoms.

Boss Brendan Rodgers said: "We've had a few players that have shown symptoms and signs (of coronavirus). We’ve followed procedures and (as a precaution) they have been kept away from the squad."

“We have a fantastic medical team here at the club that gives guidance to the players and staff and everyone. It’s been made pretty clear about what we should look out for.”

The Foxes are due to face Watford in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.

As things stand, the match is scheduled to go ahead, with the Premier League yet to make a statement ahead of the weekend's action.

On the possibility of matches being played behind closed doors, Rodgers added: "Of course, from a football perspective, it would be a shame, but the public’s health is the most important aspect in all of this.

"Working in football, it’s about having that agility to move with what’s happening in football. We’re guided by football and federations. We have to press on with our work and prepare as normal.

"The game is all about the players and the fans. If you have one of those not there, it’s obviously not the same."

There have been suggestions Premier League matches could be played behind closed doors as soon as this weekend.

The government are due to an issue an update later today as the UK prepares to move into the 'delay' phase of dealing with the virus, from the 'contain' phase.

If matches are played behind closed doors, ticket holders would be able to stream the match for free, while pubs will also be advised not to show fixtures to prevent crowds from gathering.

Juventus defender Daniele Rugani is currently the highest-profile player to have been confirmed as testing positive for coronavirus.
