Coronavirus: The libraries and leisure centres closing this weekend and what will happen to memberships

All libraries and leisure centres in St Helens will close this weekend due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In response to the latest government advice, St Helens Council has taken the decision to close all council leisure centres across the borough from 5pm on Sunday, March 22.

All libraries will also be closed as from 1pm on Saturday, March 21.

The leisure centres to close include:

  • Queens Park Health & Fitness
  • Parr Swimming & Fitness Centre
  • Newton-le-Willows Health & Fitness Centre
  • Sutton Leisure Centre

A St Helens Council spokesman said: “Membership fees due at council leisure centres will not be collected for April and any subsequent months of closure, for customers who pay via direct debit.

“Closing these facilities will also allow us to focus all our efforts on providing essential services to the most vulnerable in our community and those at most risk.”

St Helens Council said it will continue to closely monitor government advice.
