Coronavirus: The Graham Norton Show and Have I Got News For You to continue filming despite lockdown

The BBC has confirmed that some of its most popular shows will continue filming despite the coronavirus lockdown.

Filming for The Graham Norton Show and Have I Got News For You will go ahead, the broadcaster has confirmed, as well as comedy news programme The Mash Report.

Several shows across all the channels have been cancelled in a bid to protect the casts and crews from the deadly  bug.

But Director General Tony Hall said these two shows will stay on a bid to keep the country smiling during this difficult time.

Hall said in a statement: "The BBC is determined to do all it can to raise a smile and keep the country entertained during these testing times.

"We have lots of great shows already recorded, but we have also found ways to keep many other shows going so that the familiar faces people love will still be in their living rooms in the weeks and months ahead.

"I think that is incredibly important. The BBC will also deliver a range of virtual events to replace some of those that have now had to be cancelled.

"We can all still have a Eurovision moment, even if it is different from the past.

"Our pledge is to offer the best escapism, fun and distraction we can, alongside the news and information everyone needs."

The BBC has halted production of EastEnders.

The long-running soap will now air just two episodes a week, a change from the usual four.

EastEnders fans can now watch the soap on Mondays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 7:30pm.

It joins Coronation Street, which is now on just three nights a week.

Emmerdale is still on every day but there are no more double episodes.
