Coronavirus: The Bristol pubs that got social distancing absolutely spot on according to punters

Going for a pint is one of those pleasures many of us have missed during lockdown.

However, when pubs were allowed to reopen, changes had to be introduced to keep us safe and stop the further spread of coronavirus.

From outdoor seating to having your temperature taken on arrival, many measures have been implemented by venues across the city.

So we asked our staff and readers for their best Bristol pubs to have a socially-distanced pint. Here is what was said:

The Beaufort Hunt

Vanessa Bailee Watkins said of the pub in Chipping Sodbury: "Lots of space, table service, temperature taken on arrival and a great menu.

"Does make you feel that much safer if you want to go out."

The White Horse

Becky Sparey said of the pub in Hambrook: "It has a big outdoor seated area, good service and nice food.

"Felt safe the whole time and about three metres from the nearest tables."

Charlotte Wilde added: "Yep agreed!! Went for a drink and felt very safe in the garden! Would go back."

The Stag and Hounds

BristolLive digital editor Siân David said of the Old Market pub: "The Stag and Hounds has QR codes on the table which you scan with your phone.

"It takes you to a website where you can order from the menu and automatically tells them which table you're at, then they bring your drink to you with the card reader so you pay as you go as you would normally, which I prefer to what some places are doing which is to basically let you use a tab and then pay it all in one go."

The Hollow Tree

Sue Morris praised the Bradley Stoke pub. She said: "It is always a very clean pub but the precautions are great now, not intrusive but effective."

Redwood Farm

Katrina Cunliffe said about the Patchway pub: "It is brilliant. Staff wearing masks, taking names and numbers at door, screens up at bar and carvery.

"Tables are spaced out, one-way system in and out, and a pub monitor going around cleaning making sure everything is right."

The Greenbank

BristolLive senior reporter Estel Farell-Roig said: "The Greenbank, in Easton, is one of the places we regularly go to as we liked the atmosphere and it was good to see this hasn't changed with the new measures.

"There seems to be more seating available now, including upstairs, and ordering was straightforward.

"They have a mobile number on the door which you save on your phone and then use WhatsApp to communicate with them and order.

"You send them contact details, they send you the menu, they bring your order and you let them know when you are ready to pay. Very easy and a pleasant experience."

Rose & Crown

Lisa Robbins said about the pub in Wick: "I had a lovely meal there last night.

"Very clean, excellent table service, one-way system around the pub, hand sanitisers, disposable menus and tables set far enough apart. Would def recommend."

Air Balloon

Eugene Campbell praised the pub in Filton. He said: "I had a very well-organised lunch at the Air Balloon pub in Filton.

"There is a one way system, food was good, staff knew what they were doing and were very attentive. Online menu and booking worked well."

The Ostrich

BristolLive political editor Kate Wilson said about the Harbourside pub: "You just have to download the Butcombe app and then you can order drinks and food from your table and they bring it to you.

"They also have pretty strict social-distancing measures when it comes to toilets - you have to queue outside then when someone is done you are allowed in by the person on toilet duty."

Riverside Inn

Dawn Martin praised the pub in Saltford. She said: "Over and above with distancing and hygiene. Everyone feels safe and comfortable."

The Eastfield Inn

Grahame Dodd said about the Henleaze pub: "They did everything right, took our names for track and trace, you can’t approach the bar, drinks brought to you table, etc. Very professional."

The Churchill Inn

Richard Philip praised the pub in Winscombe. He said: "Social distancing but still maintaining the same high quality of product and service since pre-lockdown.

"The charitable work Russell Wakefield, the pub and the staff did for local residents during lockdown was second to none also."

The Talbot

Joanna Mereweather said about the Keynsham pub: "So well organised. Had lovely meal there last night and was so surprised how organised it was."
