Coronavirus: Thank our NHS heroes with a huge nationwide round of applause

NHS workers on the frontline have been working tirelessly to keep us safe during the biggest health pandemic of our lifetime.

Doctors, nurses, paramedics, cleaners and catering staff are all doing their bit to battle coronavirus and stop its spread.

The nation is set to show their gratitude to frontline workers in a round of applause on balconies, gardens, windows and doorsteps on Thursday March 26 at 8pm.

Organisers of the "Clap For Carers" campaign - which started online - are inviting people to live-stream their salute to NHS staff on social media.

The Daily Record is proud to be part of the NHS Heroes campaign, which launched this week, to say thanks to all the brave workers who dedicate themselves to our care, regardless of their own health, in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Clap For Our Carers campaign poster reads: “During these unprecedented times they need to know that we are grateful.

"Please join us on: 26th March at 8pm for a big applause (from front doors, garden, balcony, windows, living rooms, etc) to show all nurses, doctors, GPs and carers our appreciation for their ongoing hard work and fight against the virus.

"Please share this message, so we can make sure the word spreads and reaches all to join!"

Across the Reach network, we’ll be shining a light on the incredible work done by NHS staff, and the lovely gestures of kindness from the public that are helping to ease the stress.

While people hunker down in their homes, medical staff have to leave their families behind and put aside fears over their own health to deliver the best possible care.

The nation’s nurses are at the heart of this battle against Covid-19. Despite a lack of protective gear, many are working punishing shifts without a break.

Help us create a living map of gratitude from every corner of Britain. Drop a heart on your postcode to say you appreciate their efforts. Go to  www.thanksamillionnhs.co.uk

It will only take a minute and it may seem a simple gesture but it makes a big difference knowing that so many people care and are backing NHS staff in the battle with the virus.

Here's to everyone in the NHS and all their incredible work - and we can’t wait to see the support up and down the country.
