Coronavirus testing site at Ravenscraig set up for North Lanarkshire key workers

A coronavirus testing site has been established at Ravenscraig for key workers and members of their household.

The centre is one of 13 mobile pop-up sites to be organised by the Armed Forces in Scotland to ensure that workers who are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 can undergo a test for the virus.

The Ravenscraig site is located within the sports centre car park and it has been up and running since the end of April.

By undergoing a test at the Ravenscraig facility, key workers in North Lanarkshire will be able to find out if they should be continuing with their vital work or whether they need to self-isolate.

People aged 65 or over and individuals unable to work from home who are experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus are also able to receive a test at one of the UK Government centres.

Tests will be undertaken by swab and the results will be sent via text or e-mail.

Conservative Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig councillor Nathan Wilson said: “The UK Government is fulfilling its promise to significantly increase testing capacity throughout the nation and our Armed Forces have moved at an extremely fast pace to establish test centres in Scotland.

“The testing site that has been established at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre will allow key workers in North Lanarkshire who are pivotal in our fight against this invisible killer to undergo a test for COVID-19.

“By creating this additional capacity to allow key workers in the Motherwell and Wishaw areas and across North Lanarkshire to undergo a test for COVID-19, we can ensure that they are able to keep going in their vital roles and provide essential support.”
