Coronavirus test: Dublin woman allegedly told to travel 10km on bus to centre as she wasn't 'confirmed case' yet

A Dublin woman who was displaying symptoms of Covid-19 says she was allegedly advised by the HSE to take the bus when she told them she had no private transport.

The person, from the north inner city, was referred to a test centre in Swords which is 10km from her house.

She claims that a representative for the HSE told her over the phone that she could use public transport as she wasn't a 'confirmed case' yet.

The woman was warned that otherwise she would have to wait four days before she would be supplied with private transport by the HSE to bring her to the centre, according to this morning's The Irish Examiner.

A spokesperson for the HSE said: "We are not currently recommending that people attend using public transport, but we would recommend that if possible they obtain a lift from a friend or family member.”

Health officials announced 814 new cases and two further deaths yesterday bringing the total number of cases in the country since the pandemic began to 42,528 with 1,826 deaths

Of the cases notified:

  • 432 are men / 381 are women
  • 70% are under 45 years of age
  • The median age is 32 years old
  • 226 in Dublin, 77 in Cork, 64 in Galway, 56 in Donegal, 48 in Meath and the remaining 343 cases are spread across all remaining counties.
