A new test centre has been set up for residents of a Nottinghamshire town where a recent spike has occurred in Covid-19 cases.
Newark last week saw a surge with 31 new cases of the virus where a majority of cases have been linked to Bakkavor Desserts factory on Jessop Way.
In response, a testing facility has been set up on the town's lorry park off Great North Road, as well as a testing facility specifically for employees at the dessert-making factory.
Bookings for the testing centre must be made online through the NHS website or by phoning 119 and the facility for the town's residents will be in place until August 12.
A statement from Newark and Sherwood District Council via its Facebook page read: "If you have coronavirus symptoms, you can book to have a test from Monday 10 August at the Mobile Test Unit based at the lorry park behind Castle House in Newark NG24 1BY)
"We are working with partners to and taking a proactive approach to by encouraging people to get tested if they have symptoms in Newark.
"You should only meet people you do not live with in three types of groups:
- You can meet in any outdoor space in a group of up to 6 people from different households.
- Adults who live alone or with dependent children only, can continue to form a ‘support bubble’ with one other household.
- Two households can meet, in any location (indoors or outdoors). This does not need to be the same household each time.
"You must follow social distancing rules at all times.
"Please also wash hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds."
