A mobile testing unit is being set up in a community where surging Covid-19 infections were linked to young people meeting in groups.
At the beginning of April [2021], Neath Port Talbot Council urged people living in Resolven, in the Neath Valley, to stick to social distancing and self-isolation rules, following a spike in cases in the area linked to gatherings.
A statement from the council, reported on April 1, said: "A number of cases within the Neath Valley cluster have been linked to young people congregating in groups, both indoors and outdoors, particularly within the Resolven area".
Under the current restrictions, six people from two households are permitted to meet outdoors while meeting indoors with people you do not live with is not allowed.

Two weeks later, Resolven continues to have the second-highest rate of infections in Neath Port Talbot, with the council announcing a testing unit is being set up in Resolven Market, at the old TRW Works near Neath Road.
The market will house a mobile testing unit from Wednesday, April 14, to Tuesday, April 20, offering drop-in testing without the need to book, between 9am and 7pm.
It comes as Swansea Bay University Health Board has opened up a reserve list for adults aged 18 or over to get their first vaccine dose at short notice.
People locally with the "classic signs of coronavirus or other symptoms they may feel are unusual for them or their child", are being asked to get tested.
People with the following "classic" symptoms of coronavirus are encouraged to attend the unit:
- Fever
- A new continuous cough
- Loss/change of taste and smell
Those with other flu-like symptoms such as myalgia (muscle ache or pain), excessive tiredness, persistent headache, runny or blocked nose, persistent sneezing or sore throat and/or hoarseness, shortness of breath or wheezing, should also attend.
The testing site will be clearly signposted from the A465 roundabout in Resolven.
