Tesco have begun rationing products after panic-induced buying stripped shelves amid coronavirus fears.
As reported by Edinburgh Live, shoppers in Edinburgh and across the UK have been "stockpiling" groceries and household items.
The supermarket is limiting shoppers to five "essential items", including antibacterial gels, wipes and sprays, dry pasta, baked beans, UHT milk, as well as some tinned vegetables
Customers shopping online are told they have reached an item limit when attempting to order more than five restricted products.
Meanwhile, signs have appeared in stores that read: "To help give everyone access to essential items this product is limited to 5 per customer."
A shopper in Midlothian shared photos of empty shelves and a snap of the notices, writing: "This was literally in Midlothian last night."
Earlier this month, Boots had to limit Lothians shoppers to two bottles of hand gel after demand skyrockets amid mounting fears.
The move comes as a new coronavirus case was confirmed in the NHS Lothian area over the weekend, bringing the Scottish total rose to 16.
So far 1680 tests for the virus have been carried out north of the border, the vast majority of which have come back negative.
As well as two cases in Fife, there are now two patients who tested positive in the NHS Lothian area. The first was confirmed on Friday.
Health bosses also announced on Sunday night (8 March) that a British man had become the third patient in the UK to die from coronavirus.
