Coronavirus in Edinburgh: Pharmacy temporarily closes after staff has ‘coronavirus symptoms’

An Edinburgh pharmacy was forced to temporarily close after a member of staff showed "coronavirus symptoms".

A note appeared on the window of Lloyds Pharmacy in Westside Plaza, in the Wester Hailes area, warning customers after a member of staff at fell ill and went home to self-isolate.

The pharmacy has since re-opened following advice from the health board

A picture of the note was sent to Edinburgh Live, it read: “We are really sorry one of the staff has corona symptoms, we are awaiting advice.”

The staff member, who is reported to have had a cough for the last week, today came down with a fever. They attached the note to the window before going home sick.

When Edinburgh Live called the pharmacy at 4pm this afternoon (Saturday, March 14) the pharmacist we spoke to said: “We shouldn’t have put the sign up, because we aren’t sure that staff member has coronavirus.

Pharmacist Rascia Samad said: “We took the sign down three hours ago because the case wasn’t confirmed. The member of staff went home and called 111, they told her to wait 7 days and call back if the fever hadn’t subsided.

“I had to phone the health board and they told us to clean the store and re-open. So that’s what we have done.”

She added that the pharmacy would remain open for the foreseeable future and said it was safe for customers to visit.
