Coronavirus survivor welcomed home by family after spending 13 days in ICU

A Covid-19 survivor has returned home after almost a fortnight on a ventilator in intensive care.

David McComb was at Craigavon Hospital for 25 days - 13 of them in the ICU.

His daughter Sara McComb thanked the hospital staff "for holding his phone up to his ear" when his loved ones couldn't be there to hold his hand.

In a post to social media, Sara said: "Our hero is finally home.

"We couldn’t have managed the last few weeks without the power of prayer, positivity and faith.

"Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts to every single person who has given us their love, prayers and support during this time, we feel so blessed and thankful to have such kind, wonderful souls in our lives."

She said NHS workers at Craigavon had been "nothing less than incredible".

"We cannot praise the doctors and nurses enough for the amazing care they have given dad, for keeping us updated as a family and for holding the phone up to his ear when we couldn’t be there to hold his hand.

"We are forever in debt to them for selflessly putting themselves at risk to save lives as because of this, we still have our precious dad.

"Thank you God for this day."

Southern Health and Social Care Trust workers cheered and clapped as David was wheeled from the hospital.

In a post to social media, the Trust said: "Our staff gathered yesterday to clap for David McComb as he left Craigavon Area Hospital.

"It was a privilege to care for you David."
