The BBC is planning to record a daily show across the scheduled Wimbledon fortnight, with Sue Barker hoping to present interviews and classic moments live from the All England Club.
Wimbledon has been cancelled for the first time since World War Two because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The tournament was due to be played between 29 June and 12 July, only for the entire grass-court season to be abandoned, meaning that there will be no professional tennis anywhere in the world until at least 13 July.
However, the BBC still hope to run a daily show to provide tennis fans with their annual fix from Wimbledon, providing that it is considered safe enough to do so.
“We intend to fill the fortnight with tennis action and chat,” Barker told the Daily Mail. “The plan is to film links around Wimbledon or present live from there if it is safe to do so.
“Maybe I will go down and present some of the great matches and memories. For me personally it would be great if we could be in the studio and have, say, McEnroe and Martina from America via a link, perhaps Boris (Becker) wherever he is. Andy (Murray) if he would do it, to talk about his finals and his first appearances at Wimbledon.
“I am sure the players would like to be involved as they won’t be playing, and it could be quite exciting.”
