Coronavirus: St Patrick's Day parade cancelled in Stepaside, Dublin as COVID-19 numbers rise across Ireland

Coronavirus fears have caused a St Patrick's Day parade to be cancelled in Stepaside Village, Dublin.

The Stepaside Business Association have made the decision to cancel the beloved event in the interest of public health and safety.

The choice was made today in response to the growing numbers of COVID-19 in the country.

Councillor Michael Fleming said: "With the first case of community transmission in Ireland we felt that the public health and safety in our community has to be paramount.

"As Chairman of Stepaside Business Association, it is with regret that we have had to make this decision but we feel it is the morally correct one."

Meanwhile, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said this evening that the main St Patrick's Day events are not being cancelled. You can read more on that story here.
