Coronavirus sport news – live: Man City vs Real Madrid cancelled as Uefa organise meeting over possible Euro 2020 postponement

Manchester City vs Real Madrid and Juventus vs Lyon have been cancelled as the Champions League is further affected by coronavirus concerns, with Uefa set to meet on Tuesday to discuss the potential postponement of Euro 2020.

La Liga has suspended its season for two weeks amid fears, while the NBA season has been suspended until further notice after an un-named Utah Jazz player tested positive for Covid-19. The ATP men’s tour has been suspended for six weeks, meaning the Miami Open and Monte Carlo Masters join Indian Wells in being cancelled.

Elsewhere, McLaren have withdrawn from the Australian Formula One Grand Prix and Juventus defender Daniele Rugani has become the highest profile footballer so far to have contracted the disease. Follow the latest updates here:

On Wednesday, Hannover's Timo Hubers became the first German professional player to test positive for Covid-19.

Linz ASK vs Manchester United will be played behind closed doors in Austria in the Europa League this evening.
Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has hit out at F1 for allowing the Australian Grand Prix to go ahead amid coronavirus fears.

“I am really very, very surprised we are here,” he said at the Albert Park media centre on Thursday, a day before the cars roll out for the first free practice sessions at the circuit.

“It is great we have races, but for me it is shocking that we are all sitting in this room.

Man City vs Arsenal was postponed ahead of Wednesday night.
Another big story from overnight was the postponement of the NBA season in the U.S. until further notice after an un-named Utah Jazz player tested positive for coronavirus.
Daniele Rugani has spoken for the first time since it was announced he had tested positive for Covid-19.

“You’ve read the news, so I want to reassure everyone who’s worried about me, I’m fine,” the Juventus defender said on Twitter.

“I urge everyone to respect the rules, because this virus makes no distinction!

“Let’s do it for ourselves, for our loved ones and for those around us.”

Kenya’s athletics authority said on Thursday it had barred its athletes from travelling to international events due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.

The announcement comes a day after the World Health Organization labelled the outbreak a pandemic.

The East African nation, which has not had a confirmed case of the virus, boasts some of the world’s top athletes, who regularly win medals at premier competitions in Europe, Asia and North America.

The updates are coming thick and fast now...

The Danish football federation (DBU) said in a statement on Thursday that it expected the friendly against England at Wembley later this month would be cancelled.

The Football Association has said it will be led by advice from the British Government concerning that match on 31 March, and the one against Italy due to take place on 27 March.

The DBU announced that all football activity in Denmark would cease until at least 29 March following advice from the national government and added: “The men’s friendly matches against the Faroe Islands in Herning on 27 March and against England at Wembley on 31 March are expected to be cancelled.”

A big one here in Formula One:

So, one of Real Madrid's basketball players was diagnosed with coronavirus, forcing all club members - including football players - to be sent home to self-isolate for 15 days.

Real's announcement of the squad's self-isolation has led La Liga to suspend their season for two weeks.

And as a result of the self-isolation, Man City's Champions League second leg against Real is under threat, too.

The one everybody is waiting on is a statement from Uefa.

It sounds as though the Europa League and Champions League could end up being suspended.

Sevilla vs Roma and Inter Milan vs Getafe tonight have been postponed, while Man United's fixture against LASK is among those to be played behind closed doors.
Inter Milan players have reportedly been told to stay at home after the postponement of their Europa League match against Getafe.
