Government meetings begin to help resume sport ‘within weeks’
The UK Government will this week begin a series of meetings with leading sports organisations with the hope of resuming competitions ‘within weeks’ after action was suspended by the coronavirus pandemic.
The BBC reports that the Chief Medical Officer’s will be involved in the meetings, while Prime Minister Boris Johnson is aware of the plans.
A source reportedly told the BBC that the intention of discussions was to act as a ‘quickening of the pace’ to resume competition, providing that the government’s five tests are being met. These include testing for Covid-19, social distancing regulations and hygiene standards.
All sport in the UK has been suspended due to the Covid-19 outbreak with over 19,000 people having lost their lives as a result of the outbreak.
However, any return to action is likely to be staged behind closed doors.
