Coronavirus spike means Nottinghamshire has recorded highest number of cases a week since April

New data shows that Nottinghamshire has seen its biggest weekly rise in coronavirus cases in five months.

The county council's weekly report shows that in the week beginning September 21, 326 new cases were registered, up 98 from the previous week.

The last time so many cases were reported was in the week of April 27, when 332 positive cases were reported.

It comes as a further 174 cases of coronavirus have been recorded across Nottinghamshire during the last 24 hours.

Both staff members and inmates are being tested at HMP Lowdham Grange after 84 cases of were confirmed.

These positive tests are among 63 prisoners and a further 21 staff based inside the Category B jail.

At least 50 schools in the county have also had reported cases as the education sector tries to navigate the pandemic.

Current breakdown of confirmed infections for each part of Nottinghamshire in the last 24 hours:

  • Ashfield - 796 ( increase of 8 )
  • Bassetlaw - 760 ( increase of 6 )
  • Broxtowe - 681 ( increase of 11 )
  • Gedling - 543 ( increase of 7 )
  • Mansfield - 522 ( increase of 2 )
  • Newark and Sherwood - 661 ( increase of 5 )
  • Nottingham - 2,166 ( increase of 119 )
  • Rushcliffe - 623 ( increase of 16 )
