Coronavirus: Six shot at house party in California during lockdown

Six people were shot and injured while attending a “large party” in California over the weekend, despite the state’s “stay-at-home” order, local officials have said.

The shooting took place early on Saturday morning at an apartment complex in Bakersfield, according to Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, which left four women, one man and girl with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers found 94 shell cases and three live rounds at the scene.

Four men were seen fleeing in a white car. No arrests have yet to be made.

Police said “a large party had been occurring” at the apartment complex prior to the shooting.

This comes amid a statewide lockdown that forbids Californians from leaving their homes, except to buy groceries and medicine, walk a dog or exercise.

Non-essential businesses have also been forced to close.

The restrictions have been in place since 19 March as the state attempts to contain one of the worst outbreaks of coronavirus in America.

As of Sunday 12 April, California had reported 23,300 cases and 681 deaths.
