Coronavirus: Sick Dublin woman with cystic fibrosis fears 'she will die' over COVID-19 concerns

A 25-year-old Dublin woman living with cystic fibrosis (CF) fears she will die if she contracts COVID-19 due to her weakened lungs.

Bevin Murphy, has been isolating with her mum in their house since the first restrictions were put in place one month ago.

The brave Dubliner, who is currently studying to become a doctor at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, is trying to distract herself by learning to play guitar and exercising indoors - but she can't help but fear the worst.

In her video diary for RTÉ News, she said it was "absolutely necessary" for Ireland to adhere to the social distancing measures until lifted.

She said: "I'm doing everything I can, hoping the virus doesn't come into my home. Staying at home and only leaving your house if it's absolutely necessary will help stop vulnerable people like me getting the coronavirus.

"My biggest fear, as morbid as it sounds, is contracting the virus."

"I'm worried that I'm functioning on 50% lung capacity as it is, that my lungs will not be strong enough to beat the virus and worst case scenario, unfortunately I don't make it and I die."

When Bevin's mind wanders to those dark moments, she admits becoming upset at the thought of her 'getting the virus, passing away and not being able to have spent weeks and months seeing the people I love the most'.

She continued: "I just don't like to think about it and that's why I have many things to keep me occupied to stop myself thinking about it."

"We all want to go out, go out for walks, hang out with our pals but it's just so important that we don't do those things, that we just find new ways of living."

"I always [said] exercise is my miracle drug. I am doing a 65 kilometre challenge for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland for the month of April. I am doing that on my treadmill. That is one thing that is helping me so much throughout quarantine."
