Coronavirus causes UWS to issue campus appeal as first death in Scotland confirmed

Students are asked not to attend classes at UWS next week.

The university released a statement asking students to stay clear from UWS campuses - including Ayr - as of Monday.

The news comes as the first death was confirmed in Scotland.

The number of cases of COVID19 in Scotland has increased to 85. The patient died in hospital in the Lothian region.

In a statement, the university said: “The University is asking students not to attend our campuses from Monday, March 16.

“All staff will be required to continue to attend campuses as normal in order to support students and their continued learning needs during this period – if this situation changes we will advise as soon as possible.

“Learning materials will be available through Moodle and other platforms for the final two weeks of the current term and we will soon provide advice on how students can find out about specific detail at course level.

“Students are advised to continue to check Moodle for updates.

“We appreciate this may be an anxious time for some members of our community.

“We want to reassure our students, staff and visitors that we have a robust approach in place, to monitor and mitigate the impact of coronavirus.”
