Coronavirus shuts Scots primary school after pupil tests positive

A Scots primary school has closed today after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

Glashieburn Primary School in the Bridge of Don area of Aberdeen is closed to all pupils and staff.

Aberdeen City Council confirmed the school would be shut today but would reopen tomorrow.

A text sent to parents/carers from the school read: "The safety of our pupils is of primary importance to us.

"Following confirmation of a confirmed case of coronavirus and robust risk assessment we have taken the decision to close the school to pupils and staff today, we will advise you when the school will reopen."

A council spokeswoman said: "In line with national guidelines, Glashieburn Primary School will be closed today for cleaning as a precaution against coronavirus following a confirmed pupil case.

"The school is scheduled to reopen tomorrow."

The school is the second in the city to close today due to the virus- with council bosses also closing Hazlehead Academy.

A "suspected" case had been detected at the academy.

An ACC spokesman said: "Further to earlier communications, both Hazlehead Academy and Glashieburn School will reopen tomorrow."

In Scotland, 153 people have tested positive for coronavirus and sadly one person has died.
