More than 40,000 volunteers have now answered the call to help others during the coronavirus crisis.
The commitment of so many in this moment of need for our nation is truly inspirational.
People from all walks of life have stepped forward and offered to do all they can for those struggling to cope.
On Tuesday, when the Daily Record urged our readers to become part of this incredible army of kind hearts, it stood at 21,000 strong.
A little more than 24 hours later, the number had doubled.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon described the response as “absolutely brilliant”.
Many have been inspired to help others by the men and women of the NHS, the incredible health
workers looking after us every single day.
It includes doctors such as the hero who looked after a dying man in Monklands Hospital “like he was his dad”.
This medic, who will have seen more than his fair share of sorrow and pain, showed compassion beyond words to Sandra Wilson.
What comfort he gave to Ian Wilson’s family, who knew this much-loved father and husband was given the best possible care in his last moments on earth.
The Scotland Cares campaign has shown, just like the heroic Monklands doctor, that there is much love in our hearts for each other.
Where would we be without it?
