Coronavirus: Shoppers in Paisley maintain social distancing in supermarket queue

These Morrisons customers were heeding government advice and keeping their distance as they queued outside this Paisley store.

Renfrewshire, like the rest of the UK, is on lockdown, with government advice to keep at least two metres away from others in a bid to stop the rapid spread of coronavirus.

This has lead to many shops implementing tough rules on how many people are allowed in their shop at any one time, meaning people have to wait patiently outside.

At the Morrisons store at Anchor Mills, Paisley, the message has been received loud and clear, with shoppers happy to stay at least two metres apart and staff in hi-vis jackets monitoring the queues.

Till staff at Lidl, Morrisons, Aldi, Iceland and Sainsbury’s will all serve through plastic screens and several stores have marked out two metres to encourage people to keep apart.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “People had already been told that they must stay at home. We’ve now set more stringent limits to that. So the only permissible reasons for leaving your homes are to shop for basic necessities – but only once a day, at the most.

“And to take exercise, for medical reasons for yourself, to travel to essential work if that work absolutely cannot be done from home.

“All social events are now banned.

“Public gatherings of two or more people – excluding households or for essential work related purposes – are also prohibited.”
