A Chinese musician has postponed a performance planned in Newcastle on February 9 because of the coronavirus threat.
Lulu Liu, who plays a Chinese instrument called the pipa, was set to lead a 20-piece ensemble in a performance at Adamstown Uniting Church.
A spokesperson said the concert would be rescheduled "once the threat subsides".
"This is a decision made both by the performing group and also the promoter," the spokesperson said.
Ms Liu, a graduate of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, is best known for her performance on the soundtrack of the hit film, Mao's Last Dancer.
The Newcastle Herald reported on Friday that one student and four staff from the University of Newcastle who arrived in Australia from the Wuhan region in China within the past fortnight had been placed in isolation over coronavirus vigilance.
None of the five had any symptoms.
The four staff travelled from China recently. One came from Wuhan and one from the Hubei region, which was where the virus emerged. All four are in isolation for 14 days.
Fourteen students enrolled with the university have been affected by the current restrictions on travel in and out of Wuhan.
Three students returned to Australia just prior to the travel restrictions. Two have been in Australia for more than two weeks. One has volunteered to remain in home isolation until the 14-day period lapses. All are well.
