Coronavirus: Seven items you should take to hospital if you are admitted with coronavirus

If you find yourself going into hospital with coronavirus, there are a list of important things you should pack in an emergency bag.

A top health chief has shared his advice on hospital admission amid the current pandemic.

Dr Justin Varney, who is Director of Public Health for Birmingham City Council, took to Twitter to answer concerned follower's questions about the outbreak, Birmingham Live reports.

On Twitter, Dr Varney wrote: "I had a really good question earlier this week about what to put in a hospital emergency admission bag on  @bbcwm."

He then listed seven essential items, which include:

  1. Repeat prescription printed out
  2. Next of kin details
  3. Slippers
  4. Pyjamas
  5. Dressing gown
  6. Phone charger
  7. Headphones

Speaking in a video from his home, Birmingham's health chief, added: "This evening the Prime Minister announced that we're going to go on lockdown. This means that we all have to stay at home.

"Only leave the house if you have to go out and get food, essential items or if you have to get medicine - otherwise stay home.

"Leave the house once a day for physical activity if you can't do it in your garden or within your household. Keep at least 2metres between you and anyone else.

"Unless your work is absolutely essential, and you can't do it from home, please stay home."

It comes as a total of 1059 people in Scotland have tested positive for coronavirus - with 33 deaths.

The new figure is an increase of 165 cases and eight deaths overnight.

Scotland's  chief medical officer  revealed the rate at which the  coronavirus  infection is being spread is higher than had been expected.
