Coronavirus: See Newcastle NHS heroes' tearjerker 'Rise Up' video dedicated to fallen colleagues

They're at the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic but these brave Newcastle hospital workers have paid tribute their colleagues and friends.

Dressed in their blues, they have created a video which is going viral.

And, as it spreads across the North East, it is bringing tears to watchers’ eyes.

They have dedicated their video to "our fallen colleagues and friends".

It follows the death of young nurse Rebecca Mack, from Morpeth in Northumberland, who died from coronavirus at home last Sunday.

Her family said she had no underlying health problems.

The 29-year-old had previously worked as a children's nurse at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) before more recently taking a job with NHS 111.

She is one of the youngest healthcare workers in the UK to die after contracting Covid-19.

Donning their work gear, staff at the RVI's intensive care unit have produced their own version of Andra Day’s hit song Rise Up.

Andra was motivated to write and sing the powerful song to spread the message of perseverance during difficult times.

She believed that the song would encourage people to rise again.

And as our NHS Heroes risk their own lives to fight coronavirus, they choreographed their video to show the world they will not be beaten.

The video has already been viewed thousands of times.

It ended with a poster saying “Your NHS frontline nurses fighting for you. Dedicated to our fallen colleagues and friends.”

Newly qualified critical care nurse Wendy Parry was one of he proud staff to retweet the video along with the words: “My #RVI #ICU team with an inspirational and motivational take on @AndraDayMusic Rise Up song fighting on the frontline against #coronavirus #ForYou and #WeWillRiseUp a thousand times again @NewcastleHosps”

Others have also showed their support and tweeted what they think of their efforts.

Toyah Greenall wrote: “Gave me goosebumps, from one trust to another stay safe and look after each other x”

West Country Toon Man posted: “Our guardian Angels, bless you all.”

C M L - Wood said: “Amazing! Thank you, you’re warriors.”
