Coronavirus: Second clap for carers event planned for 2 April to honour key workers

A second Clap for Carers event has been planned for Thursday evening to honour key workers on the frontline of the coronavirus outbreak, such as pharmacists and supermarket workers.

Last week, the nation came together in a national clapping event to pay homage to NHS workers, both current and retired, who have been called upon to work with Covid-19 patients.

Now, after the success of the first event, people are being encouraged once again to stand by their windows and doorways to clap and show their appreciation for those working through the crisis.

The event will take place at 8pm on Thursday 2 April.

Millions of Britons took part in last week’s Clap for Carers event, including celebrities and members of the royal family.

The children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were among those to take part in the event, with a video clip showing Prince GeorgePrincess Charlotte and Prince Louis all clapping together to show appreciation to healthcare workers risking their own lives in treating those infected.

Elsewhere, Daniel Craig, Naomie Harris and the entire Beckham family also joined last week’s Clap for Carers event.

Craig was spotted clapping outside his home alongside his wife, actor Rachel Weisz in a video posted on Twitter that featured other James Bond castmembers, including Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw.
