Coronavirus: Scottish exercise rules ease as Ayrshire hospital numbers continue to fall

The people of Scotland can go outside more than once a day to exercise.

The restriction was lifted earlier today but does not allow the public to mix with people from different households, to gather in groups, or to go out to relax outdoors.

It comes as the number of coronavirus cases in Ayrshire hit 912 - a rise of eight from yesterday.

The number of people in hospital with confirmed COVID-19, within the health board's region, at midnight yesterday evening was 41.

Meanwhile, the number of patients in intensive care with confirmed or suspected coronavirus stood at eight at midnight - an increase of one from yesterday.

Scotland's coronavirus death toll has climbed to 1862 – which is a rise of five from yesterday's report.

Across Scotland, a total of 74,063 tests have been carried out with 13,627 delivering a positive result for the coronavirus.

Symptoms of coronavirus...

The symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a cough
  • a high temperature
  • shortness of breath

But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.

The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus...

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work

  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

  • put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards

  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

If you think you may have the coronavirus, do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Call 111 if you need to speak to someone.
