Coronavirus Scotland update: 994 new Covid cases as deaths soar by 60

994 new Covid cases have been confirmed in Scotland over the last 24 hours according to the latest Scottish Government data.

Sadly deaths have soared by 60 in the last 24 hours, with 142 now being treated with coronavirus in intensive care units.

1,952 people in Scotland are also currently in hospital with recently confirmed COVID-19.

In total 543,370 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 7,638 have received their second dose.

Of the 22,056 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results, 5.8% of these were positive.

The news comes as it was revealed that around 96% of care home residents have now received the first dose of the vaccine in Scotland, the Health Secretary has said.

Jeane Freeman also said 68% of people over the age of 80 had received their first dose.

Freeman said the Scottish Government was “well on track” to hit its vaccination target of all over-80s by “early next week”.

Two more mass vaccination centres will also open in Scotland from Monday in Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
