Coronavirus Scotland update: Scottish Covid stats show 37 new deaths and 1,248 new cases

A further 1,248 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland by Nicola Sturgeon in the latest update.

The figures represented 9.7 per cent of just under 15,000 tests in the previous 24 hours.

It means Scotland has now recorded 83,259 since the pandemic began in March after 717 were recorded on Monday.

153 of the cases were in the NHS Lothian region, up/down on the figure announced yesterday by the First Minister.

Across Scotland 37 further deaths were announced amongst people in Scotland who tested positive for the virus in the last 28 days.

Meanwhile, 1,249 patients are being treated in NHS hospitals for the virus.

A total of 95 patients are unwell in intensive care units across the country as of Monday.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon updates the Scottish Parliament on new measures being taken by the government to curb the spread of the virus.

She will announce any changes to current local lockdown rules, with the west of Scotland braced to move into the toughest set of restrictions according to a leaked document .
