Coronavirus Scotland: Street and litter cleaning to reduce "significantly" in South Ayrshire

Street cleaning and litter picking will be reduced "significantly" over the coming weeks, South Ayrshire Council has announced.

The authority said today that its recycling and waste resources were among those being impacted by the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

And from Monday, brown bin collections and bookings for special/bulky uplifts will also be axed.

Officials said they are now having to prioritise general and food waste and recycling streams.

A spokesman added: "As the situation progresses, other services may have to be suspended at short notice, e.g returns to service and recycling, to enable the collection of general waste and food waste to continue."

It follows government orders last night for all pubs, bars, nightclubs, cafes and restaurants to close their doors.

And Prime Minister Boris Johnson even warned people to "think carefully" before visiting their mums on Mother's Day, for risk of transmitting the deadly disease.
