The Scottish Government will investigate reports that providers of personal protective equipment were prioritising supply to England.
PPE is essential to protect health workers and limit the chance of infection from coronavirus patients.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the Scottish Government were investigating the claims.
Several providers have reportedly been told prioritise the NHS across the UK and then care homes in England.
There have been ongoing concerns about the availability of PPE in care homes, which the First Minister said were of particular concern to the government.
Sturgeon said it would be "unconscionable" for supplies to be diverted.
She added: “All parts of the UK are facing supply challenges on PPE, indeed this is a global issue, so any situation where supplies were being diverted from one part of the UK to the other without consultation or any sense of co-operation would clearly be unconscionable and unacceptable.”
Health secretary Jeane Freeman said she would be speaking directly with the UK health secretary Matt Hancock about the issue.
Freeman had been due to speak to Hancock on the phone, but he cancelled the call.
She has instead written to him
Speaking at the briefing, Freeman said she would remind Hancock that he specifically "does not have my agreement to the centralisation of ordering or distribution of PPE”.
