Coronavirus Scotland: Popular Marymass festival plunged into doubt

Marymass has been plunged into doubt amid coronavirus fears.

Chiefs for the annual Irvine festival, which usually takes place in August, have cancelled interviews for the Queen and Mary.

The Marymass committee have confirmed there will be no interviews held due to the COVID-19 outbreak which were set for June.

The committee say they will continue to monitor the situation and follow government advice.

A Marymass Planning Committee spokeswoman said: “At the moment Irvine Carter’s have no plans to hold interviews due to the current situation with COVID-19.

“Both Irvine Carters and the Marymass Festival Committee continue to monitor the situation and will make decisions on how best to go forward following government advice.”

This will be the second year the festival has allowed girls from KA11 post codes to be considered for the role.

We will bring you more on this as it unfolds.
