Coronavirus Scotland: Over 4,100 Scots have died of confirmed or suspected Covid-19

A total of 4,155 people have died of confirmed or suspected coronavirus in Scotland.

The figures, updated by the National Records of Scotland (NRS), show that these deaths have been officially recorded as of June 28.

The weekly statistics account for all deaths registered in Scotland where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

The NRS shows there were 35 deaths related to coronavirus between registered in week 26, June 22-28 – which is decrease of 14 on last week.

46 per cent of deaths occurred in hospitals.

Around 46 per cent of registered deaths were in care homes.

The proportion of COVID-19 deaths which took place in care homes has risen over time but has dropped back in recent weeks and now represents 46% of all COVID-19 deaths in week 26.

The number of deaths in care homes fell for a ninth week, by 4 to 16.

More than three quarters (77%) of all deaths involving COVID-19 to date were of people aged 75 or over.
