Coronavirus Scotland: Over 1 million vaccines handed out as 830 new cases confirmed

More than a million people in Scotland have received a Covid vaccination, it was confirmed today.

Data has been released by the Scottish Government this afternoon as part of its national COVID-19 daily briefing.

Across Scotland, as of 8.30am this morning, a total of 1,048,747 people had received the first dose of their Covid vaccine with 13,195 having received their second dose. As of Sunday, 71,548 jabs had been administered across Ayrshire and Arran.

At her lunchtime briefing, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon described the efforts to vaccinate so many people as an "heroic achievement".

Ms Sturgeon admitted to being concerned the wintry weather would have an impact on the delivery of inoculations but confirmed that almost a quarter of the adult population in Scotland had received a vaccination.

Tragically, however, a further 48 patients, including three people from the NHS Ayrshire & Arran health board region, have died after contracting Covid which means 6,599 people have passed away since March.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 8,726 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, February 7 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate. Across the UK, the figure was 114,851 as of last night.

There are 12 people, within the health board's region, in intensive care with confirmed COVID-19 which is the same number as yesterday.

In addition, the number of people in hospital with confirmed coronavirus at midnight was 169 which is a drop of 13 from yesterday.

In terms of the rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, North Ayrshire stood at 129.9 as of Wednesday, February 10. In East Ayrshire, it was 156.5 while it was 109.2 in South Ayrshire.

A total of 189,175 positive tests have been recorded since the end of February from 1.424 million tests carried out.
