Coronavirus Scotland: One Scot dies overnight taking hospital death toll to 2,448

The Scottish Government has released the latest numbers of deaths from coronavirus across the country.

It was confirmed on Sunday that a one person died in Scotland after testing positive for Covid-19 - bringing the total number of deaths in hospitals to 2,448.

Across Scotland there are a total of 15,755 positive cases of the virus - a rise of 25 from yesterday.

There are 575 people in hospital with confirmed or suspected coronavirus with 15 in intensive care.

Figures released on Friday revealed Scotland now has one of the lowest R values of any UK nation or region at 0.6-0.8,  which means that the virus finds it difficult to spread even from one person to another.

It comes after Scotland moved from Phase 0 to Phase One more than a week ago which allowed us a bit more freedom after weeks of strict lockdown.

The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon hopes Scotland will move into Phase 2 of easing lockdown by the end of next week.

That will mean further opening up and relaxation of restrictions including a possible return of beer gardens and outdoor markets.

But she has urged caution as restrictions across the country are eased.

Face coverings could become mandatory in public places, such as a shop or on public transport.

Scottish ministers are considering implementing the measure after the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced it would be mandatory in England to wear a covering on public transport.
