Coronavirus Scotland: North Ayrshire remains at tier 3 while South and East Ayrshire head for tier 4

North Ayrshire will remain in the third level of Covid-19 restrictions.

Meanwhile our neighbours in South and East Ayrshire face three weeks at the fourth tier, starting from 6pm this Friday.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has revealed her ‘tough decision’ to move East and South Ayrshire into a tier four in a bid to save Christmas plans.

The increased restrictions are the closest to the national lockdown introduced in March and will see the closure of; hairdressers, barbers, beauticians and any other close contact retail services; gyms and leisure centres; ‘non-essential’ shops and pubs, restaurants and cafes, although take aways can still operate.

Travel will be restricted in level four areas and previous travel guidance will become law as of Friday.

The First Minister said: “Tough decisions must not be avoided, not matter how much you and I fervently wish they could be.

"These decisions will give us the best possible chance of being able to ease restrictions in all parts of Scotland for Christmas, that is something all of us want to look forward to."
