Coronavirus Scotland: No deaths but spike in cases as 22 registered overnight

There have been no new deaths from coronavirus in Scotland registered in the last 24 hours but there has been a spike in new cases.

A total of 22 new cases have been recorded overnight taking the total number of positive tests from the virus to 18,474.

The First Minister said a majority of new cases are in the Lanarkshire area and are likely to be connected to an outbreak at a call centre in Motherwell.

The figures, released this afternoon from the Scottish Government, comes after new cases spiked twice at the weekend with 21 on Saturday and 23 on Sunday.

Hospital deaths from the killer bUg remain at 2,491 and 618 are currently receiving treatment in hospital wards.

20 people are in intensive care units with either confirmed or suspected coronavirus.

The figures come after a Scots call centre worker in Motherwell told how at least four people have tested positive at a contact tracing centre.

The employee at the Sitel building in Maxim Park learned of the cluster of cases after arriving at work on Saturday.

The whistleblower said she believes there were not enough safety measures put in place by the call centre giant and her team were freely able to move throughout the building.
