Coronavirus Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon gives nation 'advance notice' that tough news is on the way

Nicola Sturgeon has warned Scots to prepare for tougher lockdown restrictions next week due to the rise in coronavirus cases across the country.

In her daily briefing, the First Minister said: “We need to act to interrupt this growth - no-one wants to see another full scale lockdown."

“If we want to avoid another full-scale lockdown, doing nothing certainly is not an option.

Nicola Sturgeon also said that this weekend will be 'critical' in terms of any potential further Covid-19 measures.

“The coming days are likely to see some hard and necessary decisions - take this as an advance notice", she said.

The First Minister also revealed that she has asked PM Boris Johnson to convene a COBRA meeting this weekend.

She said: "We are right now at another critical point, Covid-19 is on the rise not just in the UK but across Europe."

“The virus could get out of our grip again”.

The news comes as 203 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Scotland in the last 24 hours, which is 4.4% of newly tested people, bringing the total number of cases to 23,776.
