Coronavirus Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon confirms 1072 new cases in Scotland, and a further 31 deaths

31 more people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Scotland, it has been announced.

Nicola Sturgeon started the daily briefing with the latest updates on the number of new cases and death, confirming 1,072 new cases.

The latest updates on the number of deaths takes the death toll in Scotland to 2,997 since the start of the health crisis.

The First Minister announced that 5.5 per cent of the tests yesterday resulted in a positive result, taking the total number of cases in Scotland since the start of the pandemic to over 70,000.

1,237 patients are currently being treated in hospital, which is a decrease of 15 on the number reported on Thursday. Meanwhile 98 patients are receiving treatment in intensive care units in Scotland, up three.

112 of the new cases are in NHS Lothian, whilst 460 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and 210 in Lanarkshire.

The First Minister warned that tough decisions would be made over the weekend as she urged Scots to continue to follow the rules to curb the spread of the virus.
