Coronavirus Scotland: NHS confirm contact tracing at Glasgow's St Aloysius’ College

The NHS have confirmed coronavirus contact tracing has been rolled out at St Aloysius’ College in the city centre, just 24 hours after it was advised tracing was taking place at three other Glasgow schools.

Test and Protect teams are also working with Braidbar Primary School in East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire's Johnstone High School.

However, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde say there is no evidence of internal transmission at this stage.

Yesterday, NHSGGC confirmed contacting tracing at:

  • Dalmarnock Primary, Glasgow
  • St Martha’s Primary, Glasgow
  • Govan High School, Glasgow and
  • Mossvale Primary, Renfrewshire

Tonight they advised of positive cases concerning a further three schools, commenting: "Our Test and Protect team is carrying out COVID-19 contact tracing in the following new schools within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. There is currently no evidence of internal transmission within the schools but there are positive cases:

  • St Aloysius’ College (Ind), Glasgow
  • Braidbar Primary School, East Renfrewshire
  • Johnstone High School, Renfrewshire

"We are closely monitoring these situations. To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, no further details will be released.

"Apart from those who are identified as close contacts, all other staff and pupils can continue to attend as normal. The exception to this applies to East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City and West Dunbartonshire, where additional COVID-19 control measures are in place. In these Local Authority areas, any close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 are being advised that they and all those in their household group, should self-isolate for 14 days.

"We continue to ask the public to remain vigilant. The general measures to minimise the risk of COVID-19 remain the same - social distancing, regular hand washing, and being on the look-out for symptoms.

"There is no need for anyone to seek a test if they are not experiencing any symptoms but anyone with one or more of the symptoms should immediately self-isolate and order a test on the NHS inform website  www.nhsinform.scot."
