Coronavirus Scotland: Loch Lomond National Park closed after weekend flood of visitors ignoring coronavirus warning

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park has closed after an increase in visitor numbers over the weekend as Scots ignored coronavirus warnings.

The decision was taken to close all visitor facilities including car parks, toilets, camping sites and the slipway for boats on Loch Lomond as a precaution.

National Park bosses issued a plea to not travel to the area unless absolutely essential to help stop the spread of the deadly virus.

An overwhelming number of visitors flocked to a number of areas around Loch Lomond this weekend to enjoy the bright weather in a bid to leave the city behind.

A statement reads: "We have now closed all of our visitor facilities including car parks, toilets, camping sites and our slipway on Loch Lomond.

"Stirling Council have also closed some of their car parks including at Balmaha and Callander.

"Help stop the spread of Covid-19. Do not travel to the National Park unless absolutely essential."

The number of deaths from coronavirus in Scotland has reached double figures, and the total number of positive cases stands at 416.
