Coronavirus Scotland latest: surprising new chart shows what age group is most likely to get virus

Nicola Sturgeon today announced in her daily coronavirus briefing that a total of 290 new cases had been confirmed overnight, the highest number of cases recorded in a day since May.

The new figures represent a total of four per cent of those tested across the country on Wednesday.

A new chart produced by Travelling Tabby shows exactly which age group is Scotland has been the most infected during the coronavirus pandemic - and the results may surprise you.

Despite recent emphasis on young people in Scotland to stay home and not meet up with others, the official results recorded by the site say something very different as the 20-24 age group is actually one of the least infected.

The most infected age group in Scotland is the 45-64 bracket, which has had 7292 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, followed by the 25-44 age group which has seen 5900 infections.

The 85+ group comes in next with 2838, closely followed by 75-84, which has seen 2662 confirmed cases.

The 65-74 age group has 1827, the 20-24 group has 1620 and there have been 1205 recorded cases between the ages of 0-19 in Scotland.

Today the First Minister stated that the government are looking into whether or not further restrictions are needed across the whole country as well as specific areas.
