Coronavirus Scotland latest figures: 1196 new cases as 161 recorded in Lothian in ongoing spike

Nicola Sturgeon has announced in her daily coronavirus briefing that 1196 people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

This figure reflects 16.9% of those newly tested.

This takes the total number of positive cases in Scotland to 45,232.

161 of the new cases have been registered in Lothian.

The First Minister also said that there are now 629 people in hospital, up 27 from yesterday with 58 in intensive care, an increase of six overnight.

There have also been nine more deaths in the past 24 hours of people who tested positive in the last 28 days.

The total number of deaths from coronavirus in Scotland is now at 2,594.

Yesterday it was announced that people in Scotland will now be expected to wear a face covering when in a workplace canteen, or when entering or leaving the canteen or going to the bathroom.
