Coronavirus Scotland: Latest data as Ayrshire continues fight to suppress disease

A further 285 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland - including 15 in Ayrshire.

Latest data published by the Scottish Government this afternoon shows the disease has claimed six more lives in the last 24 hours, with one in South Ayrshire.

A total of 7,626 people have now passed away after testing positive fore the virus since March 2020.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 9,997 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, April 4 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

The number of people in NHS Ayrshire & Arran hospitals has decreased by one to 18 while ICU numbers remain below five.

Nationally, there are 168 Covid patients in hospital with 20 people receiving treatment in ICU.

A total of 2,625,577 people have now received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 524,812 have received their second dose.
